If you are thinking about using twitter at all to market your online business, then you need a strategy. Remember that Twitter is a social networking site, so any direct promotions needs be made use of sparingly. You need to be social, interactive and build relationships with other users.

Below is a simple 4 step strategy to gain 10-20 hot leads from Twitter every day!

Step #1: Spice Up Your Profile Page

You need to update your profile page don’t simply use one of the basic pages. Create a custom, background which includes your picture, logo, along with your website address. You could hire someone to do this.

Step #2: Begin Following People

Start following potential customers inside your subject matter you are targeting. You could do this by going into the profiles of gurus with large followings or well-liked people within your marketplace and then simply follow people who are following them. A large amount will follow you back, and this is how you build your followers. You could also make use of the search function within Twitter and search followers based on an appropriate topic.

Step #3: Start Posting appealing Content

Post links to helpful content on a regular basis, do this as often as you can say a few times a day or a a few times a week. You could be aggressive, by posting three times a day which is okay. Either use your own content or content from other websites. An additional popular trend is to post inspirational quotes on a regular basis.

Step #4: Social Viral Marketing

If you have some content and you want it to go viral all you have to do is ask! By simply posting something such as ‘Please Re-Tweet’, far more people will re-tweet your posts this will boost your exposure within Twitter, meaning you will easily attract 10-20 leads per day from Twitter. That alone is worth a few hundred pounds a month on its own!

Did you know that twitter is considered to be one of the most effective and impressive ways to increase traffic?

Twitter has become a very powerful marketing tool and has helped many marketers send floods of quality targeted traffic to their main money sites. As an internet marketer you too can use twitter to drive a serious amount of traffic to your site if you know how.

With increased traffic you can increase your subscriber rates and leads and then convert them into paying customers. This leads to increases in your business income.

Follow these 3 steps to maximize your twitter traffic:

1.	Let Everyone Know You’re On Twitter: The more people who know that you are on twitter, the more potential followers you can gain. You can let the world know of you twitter existence by including your twitter url in your email messages, your email signatures, blog posts and on your website.

Twitter provides several applications that you can use to let the world know where to find you on twitter. I recommend using them in your business efforts to attract more followers to you on twitter so you can convert them into traffic.

2.	Tweet Good Content Daily: If you want to build a solid relationship with your twitter followers and drive traffic back to your sites you need to post quality content daily- not weekly. If you want to gain active subscribers through your tweets, you’ll want to set up a schedule for posting and stick to it.

Don’t worry if your followers don’t become active right away. It may take some time but they will begin to notice the times that you are more active and after a while they will join you in your conversations, which is one of your main goals.

3.	Keep 90% of your Tweets full of helpful content and limit your promotional ones. No one wants to feel like they are being ‘sold’. In fact, people will go out of their way to avoid it. Your market is searching for information that will help them to solve a problem in their lives. Provide content that teaches them something of value. Show them how to do something immediately that will make a difference for them in their lives and/or business.

By taking the time to build good relationships with your followers, you’ll be laying the groundwork for converting them into life-long customers for your products and business. Establishing a good relationship with your followers is vital if you want to take advantage of the massive flow of traffic that pours through twitter every day.

Using twitter is fun and easy and that’s why it has such a big draw. I’ll be honest, not everyone who uses twitter as a marketing tool will be successful because it takes time, effort, and patience to see effective results. But if you follow these steps regularly you should see an increase of activity and conversions.

If you’re planning to use Twitter for relationship marketing, you’ll find the seven Twitter marketing secrets below incredibly useful.

1. Be Nice. Twitterers are allergic to bad behavior. Since unfollowing is so easy, they can easily react to a swear word or angry thoughts by blocking you. However, they warm up nearly as easily if you’re cordial and helpful. So put on your best behavior.

2. Don’t Be Bratty. Twitterers are generally from an older age bracket. As a result, your exuberant excitement over Megan Fox’s latest hairstyle and petulant emo-ness isn’t going to win you any fans from the more sensible set.

3. Get In Front Of People As Much As Possible. There’s a lot of noise on Twitter. Unfortunately, that means your politeness is going to be met by ignorance. If you want your marketing material to be consumed, you need to tweet as frequently as possible and as much as possible.

4. Be relevant. Gray Halbert said good marketing is to find out what people want and give it to them. Twitter marketing success works the same way. The more relevant your tweets are to people, the more well received they are, and the more authoritative you come across to them,

5. Ride on trends. Fads may come and go, but they make the opportunistic really rich. Track the hot conversations on Twitter and turn them into blog posts and articles. You enjoy short term but repeatable viral traffic spikes when you keep tapping into trending topics.

6. Stop trying so hard. People can smell your put-on eagerness from a mile away. You don’t need to proclaim yourself a guru over and over again to be seen as one. Tweet good information and people will start seeing you that way. Remember respect is earned, not asked.

7. Enjoy the ride. Twitter is meant to be fun. Your followers are using it for fun. So start flooding their tweet stream with candid thoughts and links to cool stuff. Do this for an extended period of time and your fun will lead to funds.

ACCOUNT SETUP

Once you have your Twitter account you need to set up your profile. Twitter allows for easy customization of your profile page. You definitely need to put some effort into deciding what you want to type into your one line bio, because other than your Tweets, this line is all people have to judge your worthiness on. This time you get 160 characters (tweets are only 140) to describe what you have to offer.

USER PHOTOGRAPH

You should also use a genuine photograph of yourself or your company logo. A photograph of a person is probably best simply because people tend to connect better with a human face rather than any other image. A business logo would just shout “buy from us” to most people.

BACKGROUND IMAGE

A customized twitter background image is a must have feature for any business twitter account. Use it to get free exposure for your company. There are many places to get free backgrounds or you can have professionals create customized graphics for you (elance for example).

GETTING FOLLOWERS

Next you want to start getting followers. If you have any contacts that are already on twitter request that they follow you. Put your twitter URL everywhere asking people to follow you. Especially make sure it’s in emails, on letters and anywhere else you like. If you advertise your twitter account and make it sound of interest your followers will naturally grow.

Keep on eye on your direct competition, the users who are in the same niche as you are, so that you can discover how to improve your own tweets and you will also be able to share in their success and get some of their followers following you. Do this by following your competitor’s followers, if that makes sense. Then when they check on some of the users who are following them, they will be interested in your account and will start following you back (I hope you are keeping up with all the lingo)

RE-TWEETING

Spread your tweets around more, and improve your chances of attracting new followers by using ‘re-tweets’. Re-tweeting is very popular and is when you re-post another users tweet that you like and you think your followers will improve of. You are simply taking the original message and sending it out so that others see it from you. To do a re-tweet, all you need to do is look at the message and hover your mouse over it. When you see the words retweet display at the side of the message click on them. It asks if you want to retweet to your followers. Click yes. That’s it!

REASONS TO RE-TWEET

It is mutually beneficial when retweeting. Both the original tweeter and you will gain from the extra spread of the message. You may not get your messages retweeted by whichever user you retweet for, but that does not matter. You will always improve you chances of being retweeted by retweeting others. Just make sure the messages you retweet are closely related to your particular niche to maximise the benefits of doing so.

Retweeting adds value to your Twitter page if you do it right. Just don’t retweet any old garbage in order to get yourself advertised more and do not constantly bombard your followers with links to a sales page.

There are three Twitter marketing tips that all websites and companies should consider. Using these three tips can gain more interest for your website and can also draw back repeat traffic to your website. These Twitter marketing tips are as follows:

1: Advertise your Twitter link on your website. If your visitors don’t know you have a Twitter account then your Twitter account will fail to produce ‘followers’. If you want to use Twitter for marketing purposes then you must focus on gaining flowerers or your Twitter marketing strategy will be ineffective.

2: Add a Twitter widget to your website. A Twitter widget will place all of your Twitter updates and messages on your website wherever you place the widget. This allows visitors to your website to see that your Twitter account is active. It also gives them the ability to embed your Twitter widget on their websites which also generates more followers for your Twitter account.

3: Tweet daily! When using this type of marketing you need to make sure that you Twitter (or Tweet) on a regular basis. You don’t want to over use Twitter, but you do want to make sure that you are using it on a regular basis. If you fail to be active with Twitter, you will fail to maintain followers.

This type of marketing can bring followers of your website back time and time again. Additionally, it is a very effective way to introduce your followers to special events and promotions that you may be offering.

Twitter came onto the internet marketing scene in 2007 primarily. With its never before seen unique spin on advertising and keeping in touch with friends, it has become a popular tool to use. Most people who use twitter are using it daily, several times a day in fact. The basic structure of Twitter is in the term, micro-blogging. Micro-blogging is a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send brief text updates or micro-media such as photos or audio clips and videos. Twitter is a site with one specific question, “What are you doing?”, users tend to answer this question in hundreds of thousands of ways and send a 140 character long message out to all the people who follow their tweets. Its that simple, you just share messages, read others, and send yours.

Twitter was founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone. The real history surrounding the way Twitter was developed is more so due to Jack Dorsey and his career path through the years. Jack worked as a software developer, developing software for courier services and took notice to how, as the different businesses used the software and the main office could keep track of their various delivery or service vehicles, essentially, the employees were just reporting back what they were doing at that time. Nevertheless, it kept the dispatch office in constant contact with the drivers, which is a big deal as far as efficiency is concerned. Basically, what Twitter has become is a mixture of 3 different things.

· Jack’s Dispatch Software
· Instant Messaging
· Text messaging

With the coupling of these three elements of real time messages being sent, many things are possible. News tends to spread like wildfire on Twitter, friends are able to spawn a get-together in seconds, and marketers are able to instantly share their new ideas or ventures with every single one of their potential or current customers. To many this does not show value and at times Twitter comes under a bit of criticism. Truthfully, Twitter is a very useful tool, provided that you have contacts which either care what you have to say or can benefit from receiving information from you. For marketers, the service is generally used to broadcast URL’s to their various pages, products, and services which can be a tedious task.

Many people have since developed different applications meant to manage the features of Twitter and automate the process which aids in managing one’s time spent tweeting. These applications can be used for many different tasks on Twitter usually called “grunt work” if you are a marketer. Some features you will need are, unlimited account creation, management of all your accounts with the click of a button, auto-follow by targeted keywords/username/own followers, auto-unfollow of those who do not choose to follow you, auto-tweets through multiple accounts, direct messages to all followers, automatic reporting of Twitter trends to you per category, and some can even let you operate your Twitter accounts anonymously through a proxy IP address. Sadly though, most Twitter applications and management tools cannot do all of the above and very few can deliver an all in one solution to all your Twitter needs.

Twitter is the new poster child for social media. Time Magazine considered it to be the social media application that will change our lives-in 140 characters or less. When Twitter started in 2006, it was only meant to be used by a closed team of developers. But the 2007 SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas was considered to the tipping point of Twitter in terms of user base and popularity. During the conference, the user base tripled in a span of a day. And it has been on the rise ever since. Some may wonder why Twitter has become so popular. Here are five possible reasons why.

Simplicity

There are a handful of other microblogging services out there, such as Plurk, and even apps within Facebook, that let people send out short status messages. But the great thing about Twitter is that it’s so simple. It’s like comparing the almost-sparse Google’s search page to the cluttered interfaces of of other engines like Yahoo and MSN. Twitter’s own interface doesn’t give you much in terms of bells and whistles in its basic form. If you’re not too tech-savvy, it’s easy enough to understand. You just input your status or your message, and hit the update button, and you’re done. The web interface for viewing your friends’ tweets is simple, as well-it’s just a single reverse-chronologically ordered timeline of tweets.

If you’re the more tech-oriented, Twitter does offer advanced features, like searches, trends, and the like. Third-party applications expand the functionality of the platform by adding multi-column views, trending analysis and the like. But the basic functionality still remains.

Desktop and Mobile Applications

Twitter lets you get into the service not only through its web interface. Since it opened up its API, there have been dozens of third party applications that let you do just about anything. If you’re the type who wants to see everything in one view, you can use TweetDeck or Seesmic Desktop on your computer. If you prefer to tweet while on the go, you can use SMS, or one of the more popular mobile applications like Tweetie for the iPhone or Gravity for Symbian phones. Giving users different ways of using Twitter has made it very popular especially for users who like tweeting on the move.

Your Friends are There

The tipping point for any social media service is actually that point where the service is getting widespread acceptance from your friends. After that, there’s no point in using other similar apps if you have to invite friends all over again. For instance, are you willing to sign up to each and every new microblogging service that someone recommends? Most probably not. You’re on Twitter already. Your friends are there already. Almost everyone who matters is already on Twitter. With this in mind, there is simply no incentive to move elsewhere.

Celebrities

Who doesn’t love celebrities? People who are fond of buying celebrity-oriented tabloids and magazines are sure to love Twitter because of the celebrities who have embraced the medium to reach out to the public. Reading updates from celebrity Twitter users almost feels like being a paparazzo yourself. But this time, there are not commentaries or editorials from columnists or celebrity writers. You get the latest from the celebs themselves, whether they be actors, singers, politicians, or even internet celebrities. It makes them more human and real to the rest of us.

• Primarily a social site. On Facebook, you can share as much or as little personal information as you’d like. You can post photos of yourself and your family or of your company and employees. Facebook gives you an opportunity to create a personal as well as professional profile of who you are. People learn more about you as a person. In sales we talk about the know, like, and trust factor before a sale is made. Businesses that focus on other businesses (B2B) as clients understand this factor. Facebook gives you a great opportunity to let down some barriers and help your business customer learn more about you.
• Versatility. Facebook allows you to set up a personal profile, a professional profile, a business page or a fan page. You have all kinds of choices for putting yourself and your business in front of your customers. People like to feel part of a business. You can enable that by setting up a fan page for your business or for a unique product that you offer.
• Facebook ads. For business, Facebook gives you the opportunity to purchase a pay-for-click ad to target a unique niche.

Value of Twitter:

• Speed and real time. Twitter’s biggest strength is its speed. When you Tweet something, it goes out to masses of people immediately and in the moment. That is why it has become the world’s roving reporter. When things happen around the world, Tweets start pouring in. To get a message out quickly to lots of people, Twitter reigns king.
• Information and Research. On Twitter, you get fast information and links to blogs all the time. If you are curious about what is happening in your industry, Twitter will keep you up-to-date quickly. If you’re curious about what people are saying about your industry or your business, Twitter will tell you.
• Versatility of response. Both Facebook and Twitter give you a versatility of response. You can respond to the entire population in Twitterville when you post a Tweet. On Facebook, your status updates go to all your friends. People can see what you are up to or what is going on in your life all at once. Both Twitter and Facebook give you the option to send a private message that goes directly to that person. On Twitter, however, messages are more public than they are on Facebook. Wall posts on Facebook go to all your friends and all the friends whose wall you posted on.

There are many more value differences between Twitter, Facebook and the other social networks. Ultimately, you must look at each platform and decide how you can create a social media strategy for your business.
